"Head Tripped" ~ 13 ~ "I guess I shouldn't have done that. I'm sorry, Duo." Duo stiffened as Heero reached out to embrace him. Heero's eyes turned sad. He stood and quietly left the room. Duo slumped against the bed. "Damn," he whispered to himself, "this changes everything." He rolled onto his side and closed his eyes, unsure about what he wanted after hearing Heero confess his love for him. Sleep brought him to the dream, the room, the demon, to a hatred and fury unlike anything he had experienced.
Duo spat the words into chill air. He shifted his weight, trying to relieve the cramping in his buttocks. His feet and knees were bound with rope, his hands shackled tightly behind his head in metal cuffs. He lay on his side beside the large bed where his tormentor had seduced him, the slate rough against his bare skin. Coals smoldered a dull cherry color in the fireplace. "Shut the fuck UP!" Scales scraped Duo's face as the demon backhanded him. "You are MINE!" Three voices shrieked out of phase in the hellish throat. An icy hand reached out to seize trembling shoulders, but a swift kick to the shins sent the demon tumbling backwards, preventing him from touching Duo. A wolf's howl spliced with the sizzle of hot grease filled the room. Red irises glowered in the dim light. "How DARE you deny ME! You will pay for your impudence, Duo Maxwell!" The demon scrabbled upright, his black tail twitching on the slate floor between gnarled claws. "You will NEVER be free from me!" The words came harshly over a forked tongue. "See how easily I bound you? You are powerless!" The demon strode forward, bent down over his prisoner, his twisted nose almost touching Duo's. He hissed through clenched teeth. Duo tried not to flinch. He squeezed his eyes shut. "Duo?" Duo opened his eyes at the sound of a different voice. The demon was gone. "Duo?" The voice came again, soft, almost tender. The coals in the fireplace flickered as a cold breeze passed over them, then they went black. Duo strained to see through the cloying darkness. "Heero? Is - is that you? Heero?" "I never meant to hurt you, Duo. I - I lost control of myself. I love you, Duo. You've got to believe that." The voice came from - where? Duo seemed to hear it in one ear, then the other. He turned his head, trying to find the source. "Do you think you can forgive me, Duo? For shutting you out? I was so focused on the mission that I couldn't see what you were offering me all along. I want us to be together - I see now that that's the way it should be." "Heero? What are you doing here? Help me, Heero. I'm tied up. Silence.
"I'm coming, Duo. I'm going to try and help you." Heero opened the door.
"Duo, I love you so much. I just want us to be able to - to get along. Let's stop fighting and -" "Fighting? Heero, I'm not angry with you. But I need your help. I'm tied up. If you're here, why don't you show yourself? Help me, Heero. Please." "I just want to love you, Duo. Can't you understand that? I need you to forgive me, then I'll help you. You understand, don't you?" "Forgive you? For what? Heero, you're not making any sense. Come here; let me see you. Untie me, and then we'll talk. I'm sure we can work through whatever is bothering you. Please, Heero, I - I'm scared." Silence.
Duo felt his heart thudding. A clammy sweat broke across his forehead in the chill air. "Duo." The voice was emotionless. "I need you, Duo. Do you understand? I need you to give yourself to me. It's the only way we'll ever be complete. I want you to complete me, Duo. All you have to do is say you will, and all of this can be over." Duo's jaw tightened, his eyes narrowed. He held his tongue. "Duo, I love you. Don't you understand? Duo?" "I refuse to play your game, demon. You've fooled me for the last time by impersonating Heero. Do whatever you want to me, but I'm not going along with anything you say. You'll never have me - not the way you want me." Duo spoke bravely, hoping that his words would hide his fear. Duo was answered by a low hiss directly behind his head. He craned his neck, trying to see, but there was nothing. The hiss repeated, dancing in his left ear, his right, now before him, now behind again. The hellish voice was like sandpaper. "You have sealed your doom, Duo Maxwell! I will enjoy watching you writhe in pain." Jagged fingernails gripped Duo's shoulder; parallel trails of blood bloomed beneath them. Duo cried out, then swallowed his voice as the demon's hellish face appeared inches from Duo's, puss-colored eyes squinting above twisted lips. Scaly hands reached for Duo's throat. "Boy!" A third voice. The demon froze. "Boy! Where are you? I'm ready to go with you." "A trick!" the demon hissed. "How are you doing it?" Duo shook his head, eyes wild, his open mouth mute. "Boy! I - I want you. I want to go with you." The demon closed one eye and grimaced at Duo. He seemed to hesitate, then raised himself on all fours. As he spun around, his tail lashed at Duo's face, but missed. Duo watched the demon transform. Matted fur and scales shrunk away. Hind legs straightened, the tail retracted. Forelegs became human arms, and clothes materialized on the demon's body. "What do you think, Duo?" The demon turned around and smirked at Duo, who gasped in horror. He was looking at a mirror image of himself. "N - no, no, NO!" "Y - yes, yes, YES!" The demon mocked Duo, his braid swinging behind him. "You will wait for me. Count yourself lucky that he called me when he did. Your precious Heero" - the demon spat the words - "has purchased an hour for you." The demon turned and walked toward the door at the far end of the room. Duo cried out at him. "You fucking monster! Leave him alone. If you touch him, I'll -" "You'll what?" The demon turned an arrogant glare at the naked, shivering boy bound and cuffed on the slate floor. Duo's hatred burned bright in his eyes. The demon threw back his head as he cackled. He turned back to the door and, ghost-like, passed through the heavy wood. "God, Heero, what are you doing?" Duo sobbed into the darkness. "Go back, Heero, go back." TBC |
